Chamber event to feature Mayors, MLA, and MPs
It’s an unprecedented opportunity with six representatives at the three levels of government all in one room, with the chance to ask direct questions.
The Bonnyville and Cold Lake Chambers of Commerce have teamed up for the “Your Region, Your Voice” event this Thursday, Sept. 5.
This will feature Mayors Elisa Brosseau and Craig Copeland, Reeve Barry Kalinski, MLA Scott Cyr, and MPs Shannon Stubbs and Laila Goodridge.
These exclusive event is for chamber members only.
“If you have an issue, if you’ve got something that’s been grinding your gears, if you’ve got a concern,” said Bonnyville Chamber executive director Serina Parsons.
“Of course, it’s not all about the negative things that are happening. But either way, if you want an opportunity to be heard and express yourself about concerns or ideas that you have that could potentially impact our region, Your Region, Your Voice is your chance to be heard.”
The evening also includes a dinner.
Each elected leader will have a prepared speech, before questions from the floor, and conversation between the leaders, moderated by Alberta Chamber COO Jason Leslie.
“We’ve never done it before,” said Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland.
“I’m never shy to give an opinion, it could be a lot of hot air in there with all six of us in there…but I think it’s about networking.”
A variety of different issues can be explored and their uniqueness to the level of government that can instigate change.
“What’s the reality at the municipal level? Because that’s different than the provincial level, which is different than the federal level. So exactly it could be, having those types of discussions and, well, what does that look like for you as a municipality,” said Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau.
The ticketed event is Thursday at the Cold Lake Energy Centre, at the cost of $150.
