GoA’s plan for caribou recovery and development to go survey for Cold Lake sub-region

The Alberta government wants feedback on their plans to support caribou populations and recovery in the northeast past of the province.

The drafted plan for the Cold Lake sub-region is available online, and the government is seeking input from residents on the draft regulation.

They are looking to put these plans into action after building these drafts in 2022.

One of the overall goals of these plans is to manage the impact humans have on the landscape and habitat. What types of development are allowed to occur there?

The Cold Lake sub-region is in the southeast part of the Lower Athabasca Region and covers 16,659 square kilometres, overlapping the geographic area of Treaties 6, 8 and 10.

Virtual engagement sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, and Thursday, May 23.

The survey will be open to June 6, 2024.
