A fully electric ice resurfacer is now in use at the Clancy Richard Arena.

Through provincial dollars, the Town acquired a fully electric 2023 Olympia Millennium ice resurfacer for use at the CRA, the Town announced in mid-February.

Historically, the arena has utilized diesel, propane, and natural gas powered units.

The Town says this transition not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also offers economic benefits by reducing maintenance costs.

“By transitioning to EV, the Town is continuing its journey of reducing GHG emissions. Aside from the economic benefit, zero emissions result in cleaner air for our staff, community members and recreational users of the arena,” said Steven Jeffrey, CAO for St. Paul.

This comes from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s (MCCAC) Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) Program.

In partnership with Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta Associations, and the Government of Alberta, funding for the EVM Program was provided by the province.
