City sponsoring chuckwagon races in summer

Chuckwagons will be rolling into Cold Lake this summer.

The Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) will be coming to the Cold Lake Ag Society, and the City of Cold Lake will a sponsor of the event.

“Chuckwagons are always a great show, and we’re thrilled to have their wagons race into our city,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “The CPCA was last here in 2011, and we’re long overdue to see them return.”

The Cold Lake Agricultural Society in conjunction with Lakeland Connect Media Inc. came to council at the Nov. 28 meeting, to provide information on what the event could look like, including potential dates and scheduling. Although the sponsorship request was for $25,000, council opted to sponsor $10,000, giving consideration for the budget being tight going into 2024.

“This gives our community one more amazing event this summer,” said Copeland. “We love having family-friendly events throughout the year, and this will be one more to put on the calendar.”
