In Loving Memory: Madalene Pooyak – Memento Funeral Chapel

The family of Madalene “Maddie” Elizabeth Gladys Pooyak is deeply saddened to announce her unexpected passing on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the age of 25 years.

Madalene was born on December 27, 1998 in North Battleford, SK to her proud parents, Kenneth and Anita Pooyak; she was named in honour of all her grandmothers, with her Cree name “good morning sunshine woman”. Madalene was raised with traditional values and she practised her culture and danced fancy; she loved round-dancing and singing, her specialty was doing her “war cry” (sageweying).

She was vibrant, always smiling, very talkative and a natural, loving mother. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, and anyone who she came to know.

Madalene is lovingly survived by her partner: Anthony Kahpeepatow; son: Patrick Nathen Cole Pooyak; adopted son: Toby Delorme; mother: Anita Pachapis;  adopted dad: John Berland; siblings: Kelsey (Christina), Daylen, Maureen (Anthony), Gatlen, Kenzie, Eli, Ken Jr., Andrew, Asia-Leigh; maternal grandmother: Gladys Pachapis; good friend: Mikey.

Madalene was predeceased by her father: Ken Pooyak; adopted brother: Justin Delorme; adopted mother: Josephine Blackstar; paternal grandparents: Eli Pooyak & Elizabeth Pooyak (Snakeskin); maternal grandfather: William Kytwayhat; adored grandfather: Louis Desjarlais.

Funeral Service, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. (SK time), Big Island Lake Band Hall, Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan with the Band Elders officiating. Pallbearers: Jared Lasas, Carvey Sandfly, Virgil Head, Galvin Ahmeecheko, Darren Pooyak, Randy Pooyak; honorary pallbearers: everyone who knew and loved her.
