Charges have been laid on a Mannville man after an early morning report.
The situation happened on Monday, Feb. 5 at 12:30am. Vermilion RCMP, with the help of Vegreville and Kitscoty RCMP, responded to an abandoned 911 call in Mannville.
Police say when they were trying to determine the origin of the call, they heard multiple gunshots and ricochets coming from a residence.
RCMP then received another call that was determined to be related to the first, but at a separate residence, police said.
Mounties attended this second residence and arrested a male suspect. During the course of the investigation, police seized a .22 calibre rifle.
As a result of this investigation, Scott Sidney Hinton, 35, a Mannville resident, was charged with:
- Reckless discharge of a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm while unauthorized;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
- Possession of illicit substance.
Hinton was brought before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody. Hinton is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on Feb. 8, 2024.
