A tire deflation stops stolen vehicle in Highway 55 RCMP chase
A stolen work vehicle led to a tire deflation device being used and a 21-year-old in police custody.
On February 1st, 2024 and at 2100 hours, Cold Lake RCMP were dispatched to a report of a stolen Chevrolet pickup truck from Seven Lakes Oilfield.
The vehicle was equipped with GPS where officers were able to quickly locate it travelling in Cold Lake.
Using an unmarked police vehicle, the pickup truck was followed westbound on Highway 55. Bonnyville RCMP was contacted to assist where the pickup was disabled with the use of a tire deflation device.
After having deflated the tires, the pickup was located abandoned on 51st Ave in Bonnyville, a ways from when the spike belt was used.
With the assistance of a witness as well as St. Paul Police Dog Service, the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident, police said on Wednesday.
A 21-year-old male from Glendon has been arrested as well as having been arrested on outstanding warrants.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
