Doubleheader
They do this all the time in baseball. Play doubleheaders. Some smart person must have said ‘Why try it in hockey?’. Especially now that they expanded the league so it stretches to the north, the south, and the east for about three-plus hours. It might not work for the older groups with body contact, but why not try it?
U13 Avalanche
The U13 Avalanche played a doubleheader against Thorhild here at home on Saturday with tons of scoring at both ends of the rink. The Avalanche won the first game at 9 am 14 to 5. William ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas with six goals. Hudson ‘the Bull’ Brousseau with four goals and an assist. Jaxon ‘Magic’ Marcoux with a hat trick and two assists. Hunter ‘Hard Rock’ Pankiw with a goal and an assist. Brodie ‘ Thrasher ‘ Tratch and Jesse James Penner with five assists each. Lennox ‘All-Out’ St Arnault with two helpers, Delaney ‘Downtown’ Swedgen, ‘Fearless Frank’ Killiam, Hudson ‘the Hammer’ Krankowski, and Ethan ‘The Big E’ Lorenson, all with assists. Theo ‘Longhorn’ Loughran-Quinney with the goaltending duties.
After lunch, the U13s played their second game, losing this on 13 to 11. Billy Bob and Magic with a hat trick each. Jesse James and Thrasher with two goals each. Ryder ‘Rhino’ Malo with a single. The unsung hero on defense, Hudson ‘the Hammer’ Krankowski with an apple. ‘Major Tom’ Melnyk and Longhorn share the goaltending duties.
U11 Avalanche
In between the U13 doubleheader, the U11 Avalanche played Lac La Biche, coming out on top in the end, 7 to 3. The game was close in the second period with the score 4 to 3 for the Avalanche. Jace ‘the Jackal’ Malo with four goals, three of them all alone in the third to put the icing on the cake. Pulling the trigger, Aspyn ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly with a hat trick. Jaydn ‘the Shark’ Shankowski, Mikey ‘the Beast’ L’Heureux, and ‘Benny Boy’ Saddleback all contributed, each with an assist. Goalie ‘General Lee’ Barstad was between the pipes doing a stand up job.
U18 Avalanche
The U18 Avalanche also played a home game late Saturday afternoon against the Dewberry/ Marwayne Renegades, winning 5 to 2. Gavin ‘Green Light’ Kadutski with two goals and two assists. ‘Saint Nick’ Penner with two goals. Kaleb ‘Formula One’ Flamand with a goal and two assists. ‘Hawke Eye’ Cardinal, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Quinney, ‘Top Gunner’ Crawford, ‘Bo Diddley’ Fontaine, Seth ‘Motor-Man’ Morton, ‘Kamikaze Kid Kade’ Fontaine are all on the scoresheet with assists. Alex ‘Mr. Plywood’ Patterson in the cage facing 34 shots played outstandingly.
On Sunday, the U18s traveled to Cold Lake, coming home with a 7 to 5 win, putting them back into second place in the league. Kamikaze Kid with a hat trick and three apples. Green Light lighting it up with two goals and three assists. Formula One with a goal and three helpers. Top Gunner finding the target with one and adding an assist. Rampage with an assist.
U15 Avalanche
The U15 Avalanche started off the new year right where they left off last year. Still on a winning streak, undefeated on the season. Friday night, they hosted Lac La Biche, winning this one 7 to 2. Great team effort here. Seven different goal scorers and numerous assists throughout the team. Anton Braithwaite, ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan, Brendan ‘Buzz Saw’ Kadutski, Braylee ‘Free Willy’ Lesyk, ‘Boe Dog’ St George, and Rylan Quinney all scored one and added one assist. Reece Winterbottom with two assists. Wild Wyatt’ Fontaine, Jackson ‘ J.R.’ Rawlake, and Alexander Naistus all added an assist.
On Saturday, the Avalanche totally buried Thorhild when they traveled there, winning 13 to 1. Way too many goals and assists to list here.
Coming Up
This coming weekend, all our Avalanche teams have a home game on Saturday, starting with the U7s at 8:30am. Followed by the U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s and U18s. Come on down for some coffee and cheer on the youngsters in some exciting entertainment.
