Several RCMP crews work to arrest two for armed carjacking

Two Edmonton residents are facing charges after an armed carjacking in Smoky Lake.

The incident happened on Thursday, Dec. 21 at roughly 8:40pm.

The victim told police that two suspects brandished a firearm, stole his vehicle, and shot off a round. The victim was not hurt in the interaction, RCMP report. 

This sent several RCMP crews, starting with Smoky Lake RCMP, with the help of Cold Lake RCMP, St. Paul RCMP, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP, Lac La Biche RCMP, Boyle RCMP and Redwater RCMP. 

The vehicle was found northeast of Goodfish Lake. with one suspect giving themselves up. The other went running, sending St. Paul and Cold Lake Police Dog Services to eventually track and apprehend the suspect without incident.

During a search of the stolen vehicle, ammunition, and a soft body armour were also found.

As a result of the investigation, Zoe Hicks (24) and Lawrence Alook (26), both residents of Edmonton, have been charged with:

  • Robbery with a firearm

Lawrence Alook was additionally charged with:

  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Flight from Police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possess firearm while prohibited x4
  • Operate motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Possess body armour without valid permit

Alook was remanded in custody with the next court date set for Jan. 4, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan. Hicks was released from custody with the next court date of Jan. 24, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan.
