Santa loves hockey

Tales from Timebox for December 22nd, 2023

Santa was spotted in the A.G. Ross Arena  just before the Thursday night special game between the U15 Elk Point Avalanche and the Cold Lake Ice. Avalanche coach Jeff Morgan apparently requested one more win for his team before Christmas to keep his team undefeated on the season.

The Cold Lake Ice coach also talked to Santa asking if he could close the gap between the two teams and give his team the win. Well tough to take sides, but since it was a home game for the Avalanche, Santa chose coach Jeff and his wish came true with a 5 to 3 victory over the Ice.

A tight checking first period, the score was one all on a goal by ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan assisted by Braylee ‘Free Willy’ Lesyk and Brendan ‘Buzz Saw’ Kadutski.

Into the second period the game would really open up after ‘Wild Wyatt’ Fontaine  coming down the wing all alone found the top corner with a nice wrister. After that Buzz Saw, Free Willy and Anton Braithwaite all found the twine. Remington ‘Steel’ Reynolds, ‘Boe Dog’ St., Without a Trace, Free Willy and Dustin Brind all contributed with assists.

In the final twenty minutes the Avalanche would be held off the scoresheet while the Ice added two goals on the power play. Then taking a time out, pulled their goalie to attempt to tie it up but failed. Avalanche goalie Thesson ‘McGoalie’ McRorie stood his ground facing 32 shots.

The Avalanche are still on top of the North Division undefeated and will take a well deserved break until the New Year.
