Dangerous levels of speeding was highlighted in Lac La Biche County earlier this month, when a driver was clocked going 93 km/h faster than the posted speed limit.

Lac La Biche County Enforcement pulled over a driver on Mission road going 153km/h in a designated 60km/h zone. This landed the driver an automatic court appearance because of the dangerous speed, as well as a speeding ticket under the Traffic Safety Act.

Enforcement Services would like to remind drivers to be cognizant of how fast they’re travelling.

“This is unfortunately not deemed a trend, but rather that this is an occurrence which continues to happen across Alberta on public roadways,” Enforcement Services told Lakeland Connect.

“For many Community Peace Officers this serves as another example of why their role in policing is so important and why officers are motivated to serve their communities. This speed offence could have had a more devastating outcome not only for the driver, but also for other users of the road.

“As an Alberta law enforcement agency, our team of dedicated officers continues to educate and enforce the traffic safety rules within our community. Unfortunately officers continue to encounter offences such this which is severely putting other members of the public at risk. I am proud of our team’s continued efforts towards improving public safety within Lac La Biche County.”

The court date is set for December 18.
