In Loving Memory: Shirley Sooley – Memento Funeral Chapel
With much love and sadness, the family of Shirley Sooley regretfully announce her passing at the age of 91 in Cold Lake, Alberta on October 31, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born in Heart’s Delight, Newfoundland on August 27, 1932. She is survived by sister: Ivy Crocker; daughter: Gail (Kerry) McKee; son: Wayne (Brenda) Sooley; granddaughter: Hilary McKee; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Shirley was predeceased by parents: Ellis and Hilda Reid; her husband: Don Sooley; daughter: Joy Sooley; and siblings: Dorothy, Jack, James, Ellis, Joyce, Rona, Audrey, and Crosby.
Shirley enjoyed being an elementary school teacher in Schefferville, QC as a young adult. Later in life, she won accolades as a top real estate agent for Century 21 by winning a top medal for selling the most homes in Atlantic Canada in an era in real estate dominated by men, this was quite a feat. Shirley was very creative as attested by the beautiful embroidery, needle point and copper tooling pictures she created. She loved all animals, especially her little pug, Katie. Her kindness and generous heart was loved by all who knew her.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Khan, the nurses, and care givers at the Cold Lake Long Term Care for your compassion, kindness and care of Mom.
As per her wishes, Mom will be cremated. A memorial service will follow in the spring at the St. Albert United Church where Dad and Joy are also interred.
~ Respectfully submitted by the family
