Cherry Grove firefighter recruitment session tonight

One of the crucial steps to getting a fire hall built in Cherry Grove is happening tonight.

The M.D. of Bonnyville is gauging support for potential volunteer firefighters on Thursday night, to sign up to be part of a new station for the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority.

So far the M.D. is only committed to having a discussion about a fire hall during their budget deliberations. But one won’t be built without a fire commitment from residents that they’ll people there to man it.

The information and recruitment session on Thursday night is hoped to give clarity to where the community sits in supporting a hall.

Discussions have heated up again after a string of arson in Cherry Grove saw a local church burn to the ground.

BRFA Fire Chief Dan Heney said he’s like to see at least 24 people put their names forward.

The idea is to able to answer potential questions for those interested.
