Truth & Reconciliation activities set to begin
A variety of activities are planned for this year’s National Day of Truth & Reconciliation in the Lakeland.
On Friday, Melvin John will lead in a tipi raising and teaching at the Bonnyville Museum parking lot from 1:00-3:00pm.
Residents will notice a drive thru procession in Bonnyville from 6:00pm-7:00pm, beginning at the C2.
The Lakeland Society for Truth & Reconciliation will continue on Saturday during the national holiday at the Beaver River Fish & Game Building.
The open house will have displays from Indian Residential School survivors from Blue Quills, video testimonials, a Red Dress series display, and Indigenous artisan tables.
A walk down Main Street will be happening from 4:00pm-5:00pm, followed by a traditional dinner, and music and performance.
Everyone is encouraged to wear orange shirts in commemoration of the history of residential schools, and honouring those who survived and remembering those who did not.
