Man ramming vehicles and reaching speeds of 180 km/h charged

A man who rammed into vehicles on Highway 17 and drove erratically has been charged as police continue to investigate.

Bert Tyrell Buckley, 39, faces a series of dangerous driving charges as well as flight from police.

On Sunday, a vehicle fled a traffic stop on Highway 14 near Irma, and then drove as fast as 180 km/h, and was very erratic.

Wainwright RCMP then received complaints of drivers being rammed into as the suspect continued into Saskatchewan and struck several cars, sometimes driving into oncoming traffic.

His vehicle was ultimately disabled by Unity RCMP with a tire deflation device and he was taken into custody, police said on Wednesday.

The Hay River native is charged with

  •  Dangerous driving (x3)
  •  Fail to stop after accident (x3)
  • Flight from police (x2)
  • Drive while prohibited

Buckley was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for Thursday at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wainwright.

Wainwright RCMP continue to investigate this offence.

“We are asking drivers who may have been struck by or have dash camera footage of the suspect’s White Ford 150 to report to the Wainwright RCMP at 780-842-4461,” the release states.
