CSI Lakeland: St. Paul & Bonnyville top Alberta in Crime Severity Index stats
New statistics show just how prevalent crime is in the Lakeland area compared to the rest of the province and country.
StatsCan released 2022 crime statistics, compiled in what’s called the Crime Severity Index, a measure of how much crime there is combined with the overall seriousness of the crime.
It’s then compiled and contrasted to communities of varying sizes.
Taking all this into account with no population controls, the Crime Severity Index saw St. Paul with the highest in Alberta.
Bonnyville ranked second, Elk Point ranked fifth, Cold Lake ranked seventh, and Lac La Biche ranked eighth in the province.
Elk Point was the highest in Alberta in violent crime, with Cold Lake fifth, St. Paul sixth, Lac La Biche ninth, and Cold Lake eleventh.
In non-violent crime, Bonnyville was first, St. Paul second, Elk Point fifth, Cold Lake eighth, and Lac La Biche ninth.
Nationally, that puts St. Paul 13th overall in crime severity and Bonnyville 14th. Elk Point also was in the top 20.
