Assault on St. Paul Peace Officer during arrest
One person has been arrested after an assault on the St. Paul Peace Officer.
On Friday, July 14, the Peace Officer stopped to deal with several people who were intoxicated behind Fu Lum Restaurant and asked them to move along.
Fifteen minutes later, St. Paul RCMP says she stopped again and made the decision was made to arrest them.
While being handcuffed one of the individuals attempted to assault her by punching her.
Both individuals were arrested without further incident. The Peace Officer was not injured during the altercation.
Mercedes Crane, 33, of Saddle Lake was charged with one count of assaulting a peace officer and released on an undertaking to attend court in St Paul on Sept. 7, 2023.
“This incident demonstrates the dangers law enforcement face each day. The St Paul Peace Officer program supports the RCMP in dealing with lower risk files and complaints, however this incident demonstrates the dangers they also face and the unpredictable nature of the work they do.”
