Local teams take home medals at Alberta Soccer Provincials in Cold Lake

It was a massive success for local teams on and off the pitch for Alberta Soccer Provincials held in Cold Lake.

This past weekend, Cold Lake held 733 tier-four soccer players from across Alberta for the Alberta Soccer Provincials.

Bonnyville U15 boys & girls went home with gold, Bonnyville U17 girls won gold, Lakeland United U19 Boys won it all as well, with the Lakeland United U17 boys earning silver, and the Cold Lake U19 girls went home with bronze.

Lakeland Soccer Association and Cold Lake Minor Soccer Association were chosen to host the Tier Four Alberta Soccer Provincials this year after the association put a bid in to host.

Seven hundred thirty-three players, 60 referees and their families from all over the province attended provincials and Andrea Korecki says it was a smashing success.

“Absolutely amazing. We have lots of feedback from communities and hear lots of good feedback from Alberta soccer,” said Korecki.

“They said that they were absolutely impressed with how everything went and how Cold Lake minor soccer took care of their volunteers, our referees and Alberta soccer.”

Cold Lake hosted U13, U15, U17 and U19 boys and girls teams.

“Sunday was a little gross to play soccer in 30-plus degrees and an air quality warning but the kids powered through,” said Korecki.
