A man caught jumping into various backyards to avoid police is facing charges from the St. Paul RCMP.

The situation first happened on Sunday, June 25 at around 10:00pm. Mounties got a call from a concerned citizen who reported a male was in his backyard with large bolt cutters.

Police say that the suspect fled when confronted by the homeowner. With some help from video surveillance, the responding members got a description of the male.

Active patrols to try and locate the male ensued, and police found him with large bolt cutters a short time later, and the suspect took off again, jumping backyard fences.

St Paul Police Dog Services attended and with their assistance the male was tracked to another residence where he was found hiding in the backyard.

Louis Cardinal, 47, of Saddle Lake was arrested without incident and charged with possession of break and enter instruments, two counts of trespassing at night, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with probation.

RCMP say Cardinal was on probation from a previous assault conviction.  He was released on a $1500 promise to pay for court schedule for Thursday, July 13 after a judicial interim release hearing.

The RCMP is reminding citizens to call in complaints like this, as it likely prevented further criminal offences from occurring.
