FKB wins Jim Beam Talent Search in Toronto

Alternative group FKB is continuing to make a name for themselves across the music industry in Canada.

On Tuesday night, amongst five finalists, FKB was named the winner of the Jim Beam Talent Search in Toronto.

The talent search is an annual event during Canadian Music Week.

FKB hails from Bonnyville and consists of Drew Shalka, Derek Chalut, Travis Topylki, and Alex Fedorouk (from Vegreville).

By winning, they will be performing at the Jim Beam Indies Awards at History Toronto this Thursday, opening for pop singer Charlotte Cardin.

Known for their energetic live performances and comedic music videos, their latest music was released in 2021 with the single Beautiful Fantasy.

Also included in their prize winnings is a recording session with studio engineer David Mohacsi (Alyssa Reid, Three Days Grace, Shaggy, Barenaked Ladies), a feature article in Canadian Music Week’s ‘Making Noise’ series, and a live performance masterclass by Tom Jackson (Taylor Swift, Magic!, Shawn Mendes).

FKB last played locally on Canada Day 2022 in Bonnyville.

While playing shows across Canada and the United States in the past five years, the band has expressed interest in re-locating to the United States to pursue new opportunities.

The band joined After Hours with Michael Menzies in late 2021 for a longform in-person interview before Beautiful Fantasy was released.
