Cold Lake 2023 street improvement program underway
The 2023 summer road construction season will be a busy one, after the City awarded a contract for just over $1.96 million for roadway improvements throughout the community.
The annual Capital Road Improvement Program repairs and extends the life of asphalt on roads deemed to be high-priority areas, as determined by road analytics software. The program uses data collected about the condition of the roadways on a regular basis. It then determines the highest priority areas for improvements.
“This program allows us to extend the life of pavement for as long as possible before complete reconstruction of the roadway is needed,” said Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Nagoya. “This approach allows us to maximize the value for taxpayers by essentially taking a maintenance approach until such time as the condition of a road merits a more thorough rehabilitation. When that time comes, administration will always attempt to tie road reconstruction to other underground infrastructure projects that may be needed in the area.
This allows us to realize efficiencies in the projects and minimizes disturbance to newly reconstructed road surfaces.”
The contract for the roadway improvements was awarded to E Construction of Cold Lake. Priority roads for 2023 include:
- 26 Street (Lake Avenue to Cul-de-Sac)
- 5 Avenue (20 Street to 4 Avenue)
- 18 Street (1 Avenue to 5 Avenue)
- 7 Street (Cul-de-Sac)
- 20 Avenue (7 Street to 8 Street)
- 20 Avenue (6 Street to Lefebvre Place)
- 69 Avenue (Voyageur Way to Highway 28 Intersection)
- 52 Street (54 Ave to Cul-de-Sac)
- 44 Street (51 Avenue to Cul-de-Sac)
