Severe Thunderstorm Watch in the Lakeland

The Lakeland area is under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain, says Environment Canada.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and into the evening hours. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
