Over the weekend, the “Boss of the Toss” cornhole tournament took place at the Bonnyville Curling Rink, a first-year tournament for the club.
Last Saturday, 35 teams competed for the Boss of the Toss cup, this first-time fundraiser made a grand total of $5000 which will go towards utilities that have since faced increases and general maintenance to keep the rink open.
“We wanted to raise money for the increasing costs of utilities due to them getting very high, and so this will help our curling club stay open another year and we hope to see this as an annual event,” said organizer Erin Murphy.
“We want to see this grow more and more annually and become the corn hole tournament of the Lakeland.”
The round-robin style tournament started at 10:00 a.m. and eliminated down to eight teams where spectators could bet money on who would take first place.
Raffle tables, a BBQ hamburger lunch, and a pig roast supper were offered for participants and all run by volunteers.
Robert Vallee and Aime Michaud were the winners of the tournament winning $200, chairs, plus bragging rights.
The two youngest players of the tournament Rylen Vallee and Connor Lapointe came in second place winning some coolers.
