St. Paul AGM allows residents to get detailed look at financials

St. Paul residents can ask questions and see a more detailed look at the Town’s financials next week.

The Townhall Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 20 at council chambers.

Mayor Maureen Miller said it was good news when council poured through the 2022 financials with their auditor, JMD Group LLP, at the March 27 regular council meeting.

“The takeaway that I’ve been talking about is when we needed to turn that corner with our accumulated surplus and get our budget lines back in order. We are now adding to our accumulated surplus, and this year was the turn,” said Miller.

“We knew this tough year was going to be here. But the purpose is to have this accumulated surplus, so we can do projects that are needed as well.”

At the AGM, the town’s auditor will be in attendance to field any questions.

Budget variances noted through the financials included that water and sewer charges were down $160,000 and bulk water sales were down $54,000.

Policing costs were $281,000 over budget, roughly a $400,000 change from the previous year, which has been a focal point for St. Paul council.

Residents are encouraged to attend to know the Town’s financial position in greater detail.
