Intermediate Lifeguard – Casual or Part Time Positions
The Town of Bonnyville is seeking an individual to work within a team-oriented organization to undertake the role of Intermediate Lifeguard. This is a casual or part-time employment position reporting to the Pool Supervisor or their designate as indicated by the General Manager of Planning and Community Services.
Intermediate Lifeguards will be responsible for all aspects of lifeguarding, enforcement of all rules and regulations governing the use of the pool, lesson instruction, supervision of lifeguards, reporting of pool incidents, water testing, pump checks and pool maintenance; as well as other assigned duties as required.
Must hold the following current certifications:
• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard
• Standard First Aid with CPR “C”
• Lifesaving Society Instructor and Swim Instructor
Qualifications are considered an asset (including expired and still within the grace period):
• Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
• National Lifeguard Instructor
• First Aid Instructor
• Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification
• Pool Operator 1 and 2
• Coaching certifications (swimming, diving, synchro, water polo, etc.)
Experience:
• Minimum of 6 months experience as a Lifeguard/Instructor
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Strong lifeguarding skills
• Ability to make sound decisions using good judgment
• Ensure the facility is always kept clean and tidy and assist with general clean up as required.
• Responsible for lesson and administration, including instruction and report cards.
• Enforce all rules and regulations governing the use of the facility.
• Be familiar with Material Safety Data Sheets, Town of Bonnyville Swimming Pool Policy & Procedures, Employment Policy, Occupational Health & Safety Acts & Regulations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of pool chemistry and of pool operations
• Knowledge of Alberta Health Regulations (Pool)
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
• Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous manner
• Supervision of the Junior Lifeguards and Casual Admin in absence of Pool Supervisor or
Head Lifeguard.
• Previous leadership role in aquatic or recreation environment preferred
• Knowledge of municipal government and administration of public recreation facilities
Working Conditions:
• Ability to work extremely flexible hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays), shift work and split shifts as business requires.
• Ability to spend significant amounts of time standing and/or in the water
• Comfortable working at all times in a warm, humid and loud environment
• Exposure to a diverse group of patrons
• Frequent exposure to pool chemicals, cleaning solvents, and other controlled substances, willing to be fit tested for half and full-face mask.
• Ability to comfortably and safely lift 50 lbs.
• Physically fit enough to perform a variety of physical duties, including instructing, rescues, lifting children and moving equipment
• Ability to meet the physical fitness standards of the National Lifeguard Award at all times
Hourly Rate as per collective agreement.
