Over the weekend, two U15 Bonnyville Pontiac teams competed in a tournament hosted at the Centennial Centre.

The tournament ran all weekend hosting eight teams split into two pools of four, one for non-contact hockey, and the other for contact.

Pontiacs U15 team one played contact and finished third in their pool going 0-1-3. They have five regular season games left before playoffs start at the end of February, and the team is currently standing in last place.

“We had some pretty tough matches, the kids had fun, the whole incident with the C2 played some part, it was a little tough on them,” said Coach Glen Whelen.

The division one champions of the tournament went to the Saskatoon Millionaires.

In the non-contact division, the U15 Bonnyville Pontiacs team two placed fourth going 0-0-4.

“It was a tough tournament for us, teams were higher caliber than we were, and we did play some pretty good hockey. Still have playoffs coming up at the end of the month,” said Coach Luciak.

The Fort McMurray Falcons took first place in the second division.

During the tournament, the Centennial Centre had to be evacuated due to possible threats, and the games for that night were cancelled and didn’t pick back up.

The tournament continued on the following day with no issues.
