Canadiens beat Bisons, remain atop of NEAJBHL

Captain Kurtis Labant scored the overtime winner and the St. Paul Canadiens got a much-needed 4-3 victory over the Wainwright Bisons on Friday night at the Clancy Richard Arena.

With a 7-4 win on Sunday vs Lloydminster, the Canadiens remain in first in the NEAJBHL. However, with two games in hand, the Bisons could surpass them by winning out their remaining slate of games.

It still leaves the Canadiens in prime position moving forward.

“All these games are important whether it’s Wainwright or Lloydminster, whoever we’re playing so every game down the stretch is important,” said coach Corey deMoissac after the game. “It’s good to beat Wainwright. They’re a great hockey team. And you know what, we got to make sure that we’re ready to play all the games.”

Kolby Miller, William Chemago, and Jarrett Boulianne, chimed in on the scoresheet as well. The team’s leading scorer Isaak Watters potted two helpers as well.

After Ethin Campbell made 37 saves on Friday, he made 27 more in a road victory.

Parker Sabatier scored two of the team’s 3rd period goals, as the Canadiens rode that to a big 3rd period with four markers.

St. Paul has four games left before the post-season begins.

Tonight, the Canadiens head to Vegreville to take on the Rangers at 8:00pm.

Otherwise, St. Paul plays Lloyd, Cold Lake, and Killam to complete the schedule.
