A team of Ukrainian hockey players will be stopping by the famous Vegreville Pysanka as they travel east.

On the eve of Ukrainian Christmas on Friday morning, the U25 Men’s Ukrainian National Hockey Team will be paying a visit to the landmark from 10:30am to 11:00am.

The team is currently on a cross-country tour playing against university teams in the Prairies and raising funds for refugees.

Vegreville residents are being encouraged to come out to the Elks/Kinsmen Park for shinny or skating.

So far, the hockey team has played University of Calgary, University of Alberta, and University of Saskatchewan. The last game is Monday, Jan. 9 against University of Manitoba.

It’s all a part of the “Hockey Can’t Stop Tour” which gives these young Ukrainians an opportunity to practice and safe haven as the Russian invasion continues.

All ticket sale profits will be sent to the Canada/Ukraine Foundation, which provides assistance to humanitarian groups in Ukraine and Canada. The Foundation will disperse the majority of funds to Save Ukrainian Hockey Dream, a charitable foundation operated by the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine with the assistance of the IIHF.
