Emergency Services collects over 5000lbs of food in Pack the PC
It was a heavier haul than last year for those Packing the Police Car.
The Bonnyville RCMP held its annual Pack the PC last Friday outside of Sobeys (Jelshen Family Foods), partnering with Bonnyville Victim Services, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, the M.D. Peace Officers and the U13 Bonnyville Pontiacs Minor Hockey team for the good cause.
Two RCMP police trucks were filled with donated food, which totalled 5060 pounds of donations. That’s 860 pounds more than in 2021, said S/Sgt. Sarah Parke.
“I’ve done this event for five years now and every year I’m blown away by the generosity of our community,” said Parke in a press release.
“Everyone has been feeling the pinch with the economy and inflation, but that didn’t stop community members from donating food and cash to the annual event, knowing it would go to families in need this holiday season.”
Some patrons elected to donate cash instead, and Parke said that reached another “several hundred dollars.”
Those will be used as grocery gift cards for families in need this year.
