Scam tries to gather banking info by claiming you’re eligible for millions

Police are warning of a new scam that so far has been targeting Lac La Biche residents.

Lac La Biche RCMP have received reports of fraudulent letters being delivered to residents claiming to be from a law firm in the United States in relation to a life insurance policy of a deceased person.

Police say the claim is that the local resident is possibly a distant relative of the deceased person and is eligible for millions of dollars in insurance money.

These scams are attempts to gather personal and banking information, RCMP say, and are warning residents to be vigilant when receiving these unsolicited messages.
