IN LOVING MEMORY: Violet “Vi” Mary (Newman) Hansen – Memento Funeral Chapel

On Monday, November 7, 2022, Violet “Vi” Mary Hansen of Bonnyville, Alberta, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, peacefully ended her earthly journey of 94 years with family by her side.

Violet, a newfie at heart, was born in Harbour Grace, Nfld., was stationed at Gander and served proudly in the RCAF during WWII. She farmed, alongside her husband, in the Lessard area and was actively involved in the community for over 50 years. Violet loved sewing, knitting, singing, reading, traveling, and she was an original “jill of all trades” often seen painting, repairing, or renovating something. Embracing the dynamics of both federal and provincial politics, she met many, many people from all walks of life. Violet had a contagious smile and sense of humor that often had others smiling along her. Her family and friends were very precious to her and she was a wonderful role model to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

Vi will be loving remembered by her children: Ken Hansen (Sharon Tollefson) of Cold Lake, AB, Debra (David) Ozero of Bonnyville, AB, Deanna (Ivan) Pye of Nanaimo, BC; grandchildren: John (Misook) Hansen, Diana Christensen, Dawn Marie (Peter) Perepelitza, Ron Hansen, Christine (Bernie) Parent, Clayton Ozero (Jill Provencal), Pamela (Dan) Caouette, Coral Littlejohn (Kev Cyr), Amy (Seth) Perlman Pye, Christian (Jenna) Pye, Andrew Pye (Sandra Hendersen), Sean Pye; great grandchildren: Jonah, Jay, Justin, Jacob, Korben, Jessica, Ethan, Duncan, Lily, Robbee, Oscar, River, Liam, Cash, Lachlan, Jovan, Esmond, Evy, Beatrix, Odin; siblings: Lonnie Pike, Shirley Foskett; as well as a large group of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in both Newfoundland & Alberta.

Vi was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children: Donald Hansen (1981); second husband: Bud Hourd (2008); parents: John & Florence Newman; siblings: Maisie Graves, Judy Pike, Ray Newman, Eric Newman, Fred Newman, Mary Flemming; grandson-in-law: Kevin Christensen.

Public Visitation, Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., St. John’s United Church, Bonnyville, AB. Funeral Service, Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., St. John’s United Church, Bonnyville, AB with Reverend Stephen Sparks officiating. Pallbearers: Clayton Ozero, Pamela Caouette, Ron Hansen, Christine Parent, Jake Christensen, Korben Perepelitza. Honorary Pallbearers: all of Vi’s remaining grandchildren. Final Resting Place, Lessard Community Cemetery, Lessard, AB.
