FABCA Lakeland Cup volleyball tournament in the books; basketball set to tip off

It’s another fast-paced weekend for the FABCA.

The Filipino Association of Bonnyville and Cold Lake Alberta bumped, set, and spiked last weekend in their Lakeland Cup volleyball tournament.

The Lloydminster Fighters won the championship game over the Bonnyville Jams. Winning bronze was the Cold Lake Warriors who defeated the Elk Point Cool Smashers.

During the tournament, there was an exhibition game held with the LGBTQ community between Lloydminster and Cold Lake, mixed in with players from other teams, said president Eddy de Castro.

Lloydminster won that exhibition match.

While Bonnyville played host for the volleyball tournament, now the attention turns to Cold Lake for this weekend’s basketball games.

Opening ceremonies get going Saturday at 9:00am at Assumption School which is one of two venues along with Ecole Voyageur.

De Castro said teams that are going to battle it out are the Bonnyville Superior, Unity Cold Lake, Dave’s Auto Lloydminster, Ecan Warriors Fort Kent, Vermilion, Lac la Biche, and Maple Lloydminster.

“We are excited to see them in the court and find out who’s is best in the Lakeland Filipino Canadian Basketball League,” he said.
