Van sideswipes pickup leads to collision, two injured on Highway 28

A Saddle Lake man has been charged with impaired driving after their vehicle attempting to pass resulted in a collision on Monday afternoon on Highway 28.

Smoky Lake RCMP responded to a call just before 5:00pm on Monday of a two vehicle collision on Highway 28 just four kilometers east of Smoky Lake.

Upon arriving at the scene, RCMP say they spoke to witnesses and determined that a van attempted to pass on the right a pickup that was slowing down to turn right onto a Range Road. Police said in a statement to Lakeland Connect that the van side swiped the pickup and went into the ditch.

RCMP had portions of the highway blocked for some time while they investigated the incident.

The two occupants of the van were taken to hospital with injuries and later released, police said. The driver of the van, a 23 year old Saddle lake resident has charges pending for impaired driving and driving while prohibited.

The two occupants of the pick up were uninjured.
