Two charged with drug possession for trafficking; under investigation for shooting
More charges could be coming as Cold Lake RCMP investigate the shooting.
Two people from Cold Lake have been charged with drugs and weapons related offences following an arrest on April 16.
Just before 6:00 pm on Friday, April 16, Bonnyville RCMP recognized a suspect vehicle on Highway 28 involved in a shooting in Cold Lake the previous day.
Officers pulled the vehicle over on Highway 28 near Range Road 453. Bonnyville RCMP said that they found drugs and weapons when arresting the suspects.
A 25-year-old female from Cold Lake has been charged with Possession of Meth and Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and seven weapons-related offences. She was released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in court on May 24th.
A 29-year-old male from Cold Lake has been charged with the same nine offences as the female and five additional counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Condition. He remains in custody as he awaits his next court appearance.
While police did not disclose the amount of drugs seized, they said it was “a sufficient amount to charge them with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking rather than simply Possession.”
Although the charges were sworn, RCMP did not release the names of the accused as the individuals are being investigated by the Cold Lake RCMP relating to a shooting earlier that week.
