Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre hosting a new ‘Coffee and Connect’ series
The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre is a 27-bed emergency shelter dedicated to assisting women and their children in need of short-term emergency accommodations and will be hosting a new “Coffee and Connect” series for people who use or wish to use their services.
“Our Bonnyville Team will be hosting a new Coffee and Connect series, recurring the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.,” The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre stated on social media.
The center offers a community support program that provides one-on-one support to all women struggling with an unhealthy or abusive relationship or who have left one. Their vision is to prevent family violence through public awareness, outreach, and supports. They offer Public Education, bringing community awareness and education to the Lakeland area.
Drop-in for a conversation, a coffee, or participate in the monthly activity. This is open to all community members (men, or women), and it is free to attend.
“Coffee and Connect is a new program offered through our Bonnyville Community Support (Outreach) team that will kick off its first meeting in May,” Cindy Yang, Director of Strategic Priorities at the Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre, said. “The purpose of the series is to offer some healthy connections within our community and provide an opportunity to participate in some monthly activities safely. This program will offer a safe space for any community member who would like to come in to have a coffee, have a conversation, connect with our outreach team. It will also have the option to participate in the monthly activity if they like! This monthly series is free of charge, and will be held in our Bonnyville Community Support (Outreach) office in New Park Place.”
The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre also have more events scheduled for the future.
- May 4 – Mother’s Day Pots: Stop by for a coffee and paint your own flower pot, you will have the choice of adding a flower or plant clipping.
- June 1 – Summer Survival Kits: Summer activity box to keep your family busy this summer.
- July 6 – Moon Jars: Parents & children ages 10 – 12 will explore a three-part piggy bank and learn ways to establish independence.
- August 3 – Berry Picking: Where to find berries and recipe sharing.
The centre also offers a 24-hour helpline for support and referrals to anyone who calls.
