Lac La Biche Rural Development Network and FCSS holding sessions about housing

Lac La Biche County will be holding a series of three sessions to start a community conversation about housing insecurity and the homelessness spectrum.

Residents can join the Rural Development Network (RDN) and the Lac La Biche County FCSS to learn about housing insecurity and the homelessness spectrum along with myth busters and success stories of real people who have been housed.

The first session will took place April 13. Session two will be on April 21, 2022 at 6:00-7:30 p.m. and session three will be held on April 27 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“The Community Conversations we are hosting with Rural Development Network is to explore homelessness, factors contributing to homelessness, myths about this issue and how we can work together to address it,” Anita Polturak Manager of FCSS in Lac La Biche County said. “This is an opportunity for people in the community to become informed about this issue, ask questions – even challenging questions – and contribute to solutions.”

Polturak said, people often think of homelessness as only those people we see on the street, but there is a spectrum of housing insecurity which is important to understand.

“Coming out of homelessness is not straightforward either – requiring patience and perseverance,” Polturak said. “We heartily invite people to be part of the conversation. We are offering both virtual and in-person sessions, along with a community survey. This public dialogue is scheduled to continue from now until the third week of May, so there is lots of opportunity to be part of this important topic.”
