SPORTSHOUND: It’s Show Time

Last Updated: March 30th, 2022By

This Friday is April Fool’s Day. But this is no joke. The U13 Elk Point Avalanche is heading to the Tier #3 provincial finals in Dewberry/Marwayne starting on Friday, April! st. The U 13 Avalanche had a terrific year finishing on top of the tier #3 league, then winning the playoffs and the right to represent the North East League at the provincial final. Up until two years ago, teams played round robins in the zone the winner going to the provincial finals. The new format sends the winner of the league to the finals in each division and tier.

The host Dewberry/ Marwayne are also from our North East league and are automatically in the finals, but they are going to be as good as the rest of the competition coming there. Dewberry /Marwayne gave the Avalanche all they could handle in the first round of playoffs, winning the second game in overtime and sending it to the third and final game which the Avalanche won, but not without a battle to the end. The Avalanche then went on and defeated Lac La Biche in the last round easily for the title of league champions. The Avalanche games and location are Friday, April 1st in Marwayne. Saturday, April 2nd, 9.15 am and 3.15 pm both of them in Dewberry. The semi-finals and final will be held on Sunday. Let’s bring home the gold boys !!!

Last weekend in Camrose, the former Elk Point Avalanche player Spenser ‘ Goldie Locks’ Malachowski playing for the Vermilion U15 female team brought home the gold medal. ‘Goldie Locks’ scored the winning goal in the final 5 to 4 win over Calgary.
