U11 Clippers faceoff players with parents after winning banner

Parents and players faced off in a year-end hockey game in Lac La Biche on Tuesday night.

The Lac La Biche Clippers U11 Tier 5 team held a fun game that saw the players and their parents lace off the skates for a game at the Bold Centre.

“It’s great because the kids look forward to it,” said coach Brent Clark. “The parents look forward to it. It doesn’t matter who wins, they love it.”

The Clippers won their league after coming up against the Boyle Blazers in the final. They won both games by scores of 8-3 and 5-4.

“They’re all pretty happy with how the season turned out being first year U11s, and some of them this is their first year playing hockey,” said Clark. “So to win a division is pretty good. I think our biggest achievement will be that every kid here will probably play hockey next year because they’re on such a fun team.

“We started out with some good practices. It was a strong team to begin with. And then we noticed Boyle and Bonnyville. They’re two strong teams too…there was some good competition for us.”

One of the pivotal points of the season, said Clark, was coming back to tie Boyle back in December. They were down 4-1 after the first period and 5-1 early in the 2nd, but battled back with a late goal in that frame, and three unanswered in the 3rd to earn a 5-5 tie.

Clark said “we just needed a little more time” to complete the comeback in regulation, but it was a key point of the year. Lac La Biche won 10 straight after that game in December and didn’t lose another all season.
