Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate homicide on Kehewin Cree Nation
One person is dead following a shooting on Kehewin Cree Nation.
On March 9, at approx. 7:15 p.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a complaint of a shooting on Kehewin Cree Nation.
Cpl. Troy Savinkoff is a Media Relations Officer with the Alberta RCMP Eastern Alberta District.
“Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 54-year-old male from Kehewin Cree Nation, deceased,” Cpl. Savinkoff said.
The confrontation on March 9, between the RCMP and the 22-year-old suspect on Kehewin Cree Nation during which officers discharged their service weapons is in relation to this investigation.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the homicide investigation. A 22-year-old suspect has been identified and is in hospital receiving medical treatment.
An autopsy will be scheduled in the near future.
