The payphone is becoming extinct in Lakeland.
Two more pay phones will be removed by TELUS, one at the Dewberry Hotel and the other will be removed from Islay Municipal Hospital.
A notice was received by the Town of Vermilion January 24.
“As an agent acting on behalf of TELUS Communications Inc., WiMacTel sends this communication to you, in compliance with CRTC decision 2004-47 Sections 56 to 66, to provide notice that the last payphone in Islay and the Dewberry Hotel will be removed on or after April 5, 2022. This is due to the decline in usage,” the notice read.
This comes after recent removals in The Town of Bonnyville and St. Paul.
