Busy week for the Bonnyville RCMP

It’s been a busy week for the RCMP in Bonnyville and they were involved in 173 investigations between January 28 – February 4.

“St. Paul Traffic Services assisted with traffic safety enforcement in the Bonnyville Detachment area during this week,” Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt) Sarah Parke said in her weekly update to media.

“Over 20 motorists were charged with a variety of offences including speeding, failure to wear seatbelt, car seat violations, tinted windows and distracted driving to name a few.”

On October 18, 2020 a 57-year-old male from Iron River was arrested and charged for Impaired Driving, Driving Over .08 & Uttering Threats.

“On February 2, 2021, the male failed to a5tend court and an arrest warrant was issued,” S/Sgt. Parke said.

 

“That arrest warrant was subsequently executed and a new court date was set but the male failed to attend court again on that date of June 15th, 2021.”

Yet another arrest warrant was issued, executed and the male was issued another court date of January 4, 2022, however, he again failed to attend.

“On January 28, at 2:00 p.m. a member of the Bonnyville RCMP attended a rural farm northeast of Iron River in search of the male who again found himself on warrant for the original offences and the accumulated fail to attend court offences,” S/Sgt. Parke said.

“The member located the male hiding in the rafters in a barn on the property and arrested him without incident.”

This time the male was remanded into custody and is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on February 15, 2022.

On January 28, at 9:00 a.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a break & enter at an oil lease site east of Bonnyville where copper wire was stolen. Anyone with information regarding this break, enter & theft is urged to contact the Bonnyville RCMP.

On January 30, the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a residence in the 4700 block of 39 Street for a disturbance.

“The investigation lead members to arrest and charge a 46-year-old female from Bonnyville with Assault,” Staff Sgt. Parke told Lakeland Connect in her weekly update.

She was released and set to appear in Bonnyville Court on April 26.

“On February 1, there were eight people that had been charged with various Criminal Offences who Failed to Attend their Court Appearance,” Staff Sgt. Parke said. “The Criminal offences these individuals were compelled to court to answer to range from Uttering Threats, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property, Suspended Driving, Sexual Assault, Breaking & Entering, Mischief Over $5000, Possession of Drugs for the Purpose of Trafficking, Harassing Communications, Assault with a Weapon and Assaulting a Police Officer.”

All eight individuals are being charged with Failing to Appear in Court and Warrants have been issued for their arrest.

On February 3, at 7:30 p.m., the Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to a local business for an intoxicated male Causing a Disturbance.

The male was arrested and later released when sober and issued a violation ticket for drinking alcohol in a public place.
