Pontiacs forward Tamburro commits to Colgate University

The Bonnyville Pontiacs announced another member of their team has committed to an NCAA Division I school on Wednesday.

Sebastian Tamburro will be going to Colgate University in the 2023-24 season once his junior career finishes. The 2002-born Toronto product currently leads the team with 39 points in 36 games.

“Sebastian Tamburro is our team’s top scorer and he is not only one of the very best skaters in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, he is an exceptional human being as well,” said Head Coach and General Manager Rick Swan in a press release on Wednesday.

“Tambo has made an immediate impact in our locker room and in our community and represents what a Bonnyville Pontiac is all about. He needed the right situation, along with the right belief, and Sebastian coming to Bonnyville was a perfect fit for him to develop. In saying that, his ceiling is high and he will continue to grow as a player and person. Colgate has a ‘top drawer program’ which allowed former Pontiac and current Toronto Marlies forward Bobby McMann to excel academically as well as a player.”

Tamburro becomes the sixth Pontiac on this season’s roster committed to an NCAA Division I school joining A.J. Macaulay (Alaska-Fairbanks), Will Hilfiker (Alaska-Fairbanks), Kash Rasmussen (Michigan Tech), Alex Power (Quinnipiac) and Nick Traggio (Brown).

Sebastian Tamburro becomes the 101st player who suited up for the Pontiacs since 2013/14 to commit to play at the college/university level.

“I would like to thank my friends and my family who helped me through my journey,” said Tamburro in the release.

“I would also like to thank the Pontiacs coaching staff for believing in me and helping me achieve my dream of obtaining an NCAA commitment. Colgate is an excellent school and I am looking forward to helping them achieve success, after I do everything I can to bring us closer to a championship for the Town of Bonnyville,” he said.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs take on the Lloyd Bobcats tonight at 7:30pm on the road, before coming back home on Thursday night to their rivals at 7pm.
