St. Paul Canadiens Indigenous Alumni to play NHL Alumni in special January game
The St. Paul Jr. Canadiens Alumni Foundation is preparing for the arrival of Indigenous NHL alumni for a special event coming in January.
Tickets are now on sale for the NHL Indigenous Alumni vs St. Paul Canadiens Indigenous Alumni game scheduled for Saturday, January 15, 2022.
The Foundation said the tour of retired Indigenous NHL players may include the likes of Bryan Trottier, Reggie Leach, Arron Asham, Jamie
Leach, Chris Brant, John Chabot, Cody McCormick, Tyler Kennedy, Danny Hodgson, Denny Lambert, Daryl Stanley, Jason Simon, Blair Atcheynum, DJ King, Scott Daniels and Dan Frawley with either Trevor Kidd or JS Aubin between the pipes.
There will also be a food drive the day of the event for the St. Paul Food Bank.
The event is meant to highlights the important contributions from area First Nations players who have been part of the more than 65 year history of the franchise. With estimates of over 150 Indigenous players wearing the rouge-bleu-and blanc, they are confident it will be a community event after consultations with Saddle Lake, Frog Lake, and neighbouring Metis Settlements on the best way to recognize their contributions.
This one of two major events happening with the Alumni Foundation this winter. On February 5, 2022, an alumni game against former Montreal Canadiens and St. Paul Jr Canadiens will reconnect the franchises. It’s expected to be a major event with a banquet celebration afterwards. Tickets will be available soon.
