No call is to small for the Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society when public safety is at risk.
Yesterday, November 16, a report of a jackknifed semi leaking fuel in the eastbound lane of Highway #16 sent Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society, County #9-1, RCMP and EMS out of the doors at 1:57 p.m.
“Vermilion Command, Heavy Rescue and Pump #3 were dispatched,” County of Vermilion River Fire Chief Kirk Hughes told Lakeland Connect. “Upon arriving on-scene, Deputy Chief Krys reported that the semi was not blocking the road but was leaking fluids.”
Once on scene, crews worked quickly to stop the flow of fuel, check the patient and establish traffic control.
“The scene was cleared at 3:48 p.m.,” Fire Chief Hughes said. “Remember, when passing emergency vehicles slow to 60 km/hr and watch for emergency responders working.”
