Richardson’s Jewellery in Bonnyville has made a generous donation to Rednecks with a Cause.
Rednecks with a Cause is a non-profit organization in the Lakeland that is dedicated to providing autism awareness and education throughout Canada by connecting families and caregivers to information, tools, and resources.
On November 15, the Owner of Richardson’s Jewellery Matt Fisher presented a cheque for $5000 to Kristy L’Hirondelle from Rednecks with a Cause.
“As a family business, we understand how important community is,” Fisher told Lakeland Connect. “We believe is it important to bless those around us as we are so thankful for having them support us.”
The community really came together to help this donation possible. $2000 was raised from a silent auction that Richardson’s Jewellery held, then the local business added $3000 to the cause.
The money will be put to good use says board member Kristy L’Hirondelle from Rednecks with a Cause.
“We are a non-profit organization that raises autism awareness in the Lakeland, we also bring world-renowned speakers in to help educate parents, teachers, and education assistants on speech paths to get everybody on the same wavelength,” L’Hirondelle told Lakeland Connect. “Every year we have a gala that raises money. So we can bring the speakers in and we have an iPad program.”
L’Hirondelle says children with Autism use an iPad to communicate at school.
“We purchase iPads for the autistic children to use at home so that they have the same opportunity to communicate at home as they do at school,” L’Hirondelle said.
L’Hirondelle says most kids with autism have an issue with communication.
“Either they can speak but struggle with social situations, or they struggle with speech and social situations and some are nonverbal,” L’Hirondelle said. “So the different apps that you can purchase on these iPads, which we also buy.”
