Fishing Lake man rams into Bonnyville police in stolen truck

A RCMP member was rammed by a Fishing Lake man in a stolen truck in downtown Bonnyville.

On October 25, at 5:42 p.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a call of a reported stolen white Ford F350 with slip tank, parked at a downtown convenience store in Bonnyville.

“A Bonnyville RCMP member approached the vehicle from the rear with full emergency equipment activated and attempted a roadside check with the driver who immediately reversed and rammed into the Police vehicle,” Sgt. Sarah Parke said. “A brief police pursuit took place but the suspect was not caught at this time.”

A few hours later the vehicle was located at a residence in St. Paul where a St. Paul RCMP member and the Police Dog Services team located the driver and arrested him after a brief struggle.

The 27-year-old male from Fishing Lake has been charged with Flight From Police, Assault with a Weapon, Operate a motor vehicle while Prohibited and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

A bail hearing was completed and the male was remanded into custody until his first court appearance on November 4.
