NEAJBHL competition stingy: Ice and Canadiens tied for second

The NEAJBHL can’t get much tighter at the top with both Cold Lake and St. Paul tied with 10 points, two points out of first. These two teams face-off again on Friday.

The St. Paul Canadiens won their lone matchup this weekend defeating the Lloyd Bandits 7-4 on Sunday. Nicolas Beaudoin got three points in his season debut and three more from Kyler Steinhauer-Morin, while as a team the Canadiens had seven different goal scorers in the win.

Brody Green’s multi-point effort continued his prolific scoring pace to start the season with 12 points in five games.

Beaudoin is affiliated with the Bonnyville Pontiacs this season, and played just the night before in Grande Prairie in a 7-1 Yaks win.

The Canadiens’ game in Killam this weekend was cancelled to a brine leak at the Wheat Kings’ arena.

Meanwhile, the Cold Lake Ice dropped a pair of games losing 8-6 to the Vermilion Tigers and 4-1 at home to the Wainwright Bisons.

The Tiger’s Caius Quist scored two goals and an assist while Connor Rescue had three assists in the Tigers’ highest offensive output this season thus far.

Four unanswered third period goals were just enough for the Lloyd Bandits to come back on the Lac La Biche Clippers on Saturday for a 7-6 victory. Peter Willier’s hat trick goal at 8:56 of the 3rd period gave the Clippers a 6-3 edge and Keanu Foulds also had a four point game, but the Bandits comeback was complete on Matt Hayter’s goal with 1:41 left in the frame for the win.

In the weekend’s last game, the Wainwright Bisons eeked out a 4-3 overtime winner against the Vermilion Tigers for sole possession of 1st place with 12 points. Drake Rennie’s second marker of the game stood up as the gamewinner.
