Tales from the Timebox: October 26th, 2021

This past weekend was the second week of North East League tiering before the regular season begins in the beginning of November. Our teams were busy once again with two games each on the slate.

U15 Avalanche

The U15 travelled up in Boyle on Friday night coming home very happy with the a 7-2 win over the Blazers. ‘Top Gunner’ Crawford leading the pack with a hat trick and an assist. One goal and one assist each for the brothers, Madden ‘Mad Dog’ and ‘Formula One’ Flamand. ‘Bo Diddley’ Fontaine and Tray Thomas Calliou with a goal each. Two assists each for towering D-man ‘Cyclone Cole’ Pierce, rookie Trayden ‘the Great’ Gadwa and the not big but no fear defenseman Gavin ‘Green Light’ Kadutski. Goaltender Alex ‘Plywood’ Patterson was solid between the pipes.

On Saturday it was a completely different story when the Lloydminister Blazers came to town. Same team nickname, but not the same at all. The Avalanche finding it nearly impossible to extinguishing this flame. This Blazer team from the Border City is already rated as a tier one team and their play was just a notch above our boys. This is why the league has the tiering system. Our boys will likely end up in tier two and not have to play them again. The Avalanche offence didn’t manage to get anything on the board. Goaltender Plywood was bombarded with 58 shots.

U11 Avalanche

The U11 team hosted the Paradise Valley Jets on Saturday morning losing a tight battle 4-3. This game could have went either way it was that close. Two goals for ‘Billy Bob’ Ballas. ‘Major Tom’ Melnyk hammering one home. Hudson ‘the Bull’ Brosseau setting up one of them . Theo ‘Long Horn’ Loughran –Quinney behind the mask facing 32 shots.

Sometimes at the U11 level, one player can make a huge difference . This was the case on Sunday when the U11 team travelled to Chauvin losing this one 12-5. All dozen of the goals for Chauvin were scored by the same player # 16. He must have some fast wheels and pretty good moves I would say. Jaxon ‘Magic’ Marcoux with a hat trick for the Avalanche. Liam ‘Dobbie’ Dumont with a goal and an assist. Billy Bob pulling the trigger hitting the target with a goal. Bull assisting on one and taking two trips over to the sin bin for trying to slow down the Chauvin scoring ace.

U13 Avalanche

The U13 played in the Border City on Saturday losing a really good game 7-4. Shots on goal were very close the Blazers just edging the Avalanche by a few. Slippery ‘Without a Trace’ Morgan sneaking in with a couple of goals. Kale ‘the Hawk’ Ockerman swooping in with one. ‘Wild Wyatt’ Fontaine notching one as well. Brendan ‘Buzzsaw’ Kadutski with an assist. Owen ‘Ollie the Goalie’ Grykuliak making some sensation saves this past weekend in both of their games.

On Sunday the U13 hosted the Irma Aces coming out on top of this one 11-6 . Four goals for the sniper Remington ‘Steel’ Reynolds. He also assisted on one. A hat trick for Without a Trace. Wild Wyatt with two goals and two assists. Jaxon ‘Smitty’ Smith and the Hawk with a goal and an assist each. Four assists for set up man Buzzsaw. Kestyn ‘Crocodile’ Quinney and Tristan ‘Bobcat’ Brousseau each helping the cause with one assist each.

U18 Avalanche

Running on empty! The U18 had a short bench on Saturday at home when they faced off against the hungry Kitscoty Pitbulls. A few boys short for the game, the Avalanche was left with only 10 skaters to face off. Even still the game was within reach for the first two periods before the Avalanche powered out, running on an empty tank they gave up quite a few in the third period. ‘Kid Kade’ Fontaine coming through with two goals, brother ‘Mick Jagger’ adding a goal and two assists. Ceajay ‘QuickDraw’ Quinney, Seth ‘Motorman’ Morton, ‘Saint Nic’ Penner and Josef ‘Big Red’ Theriault each with a helper. Trent ‘Champion’ Chartrand with the goaltending duties.

On Sunday the U18 travelled to Vermilion to take on the Tigers, taming them with a 3-2 win. Goalie Vanden ‘Super Mario’ Moroziuk in the cage played awesome shutting the door and keeping the Tigers at bay. The Kamikaze Kid Kade Fontaine coming through again with two more goals including the winner. Brother slick Mick Jagger adding a goal and an assist. Owen Fontaine, the Saint and Jordy Feland all with assists.

Out of Town Players

In out of town action two of our former female players faced off against each other this past Friday night in Cold Lake. Spencer ‘Goldie Locks’ Malachowski is now playing female U15 in Vermilion for the Tigers and Ella ‘Stellar’ Ballas is skating with the Lakeland Jaguars U15 team. Goldie locks scored a goal for her new team in a 2 to 0 win over the Jags. But the two are still good friends and giggled all the way riding together back home. Good friends forever off the ice. On the ice, maybe not so much!
