Kitscoty Fire Department respond to serious accident on Highway 16

A Motor Vehicle Collision with injuries on Highway 16 west of Kitscoty last night kept crews busy.

It was the third accident call in 36 hours for the Kitscoty Fire Department and County #9-1.

When firefighters arrived on-scene, they located a single car that had left the highway, traveled down a steep embankment and broke though a cattle fence narrowly missing a water filled pond.

“Crews worked to stabilize the patient on a backboard in order to move her to advanced care,” Protective Services from the County of Vermilion River stated.

The patient was treated by EMS and transported to hospital in stable condition.

“Kitscoty Fire crews have been quite busy over the last few days with three motor vehicle collisions and three fires. We are coming to the busy time of year, where summer is winding down, the sun is setting earlier and the animals are quite active. Just a reminder to motorist to take breaks while driving long distances and to pay attention to the roads,” County Fire Chief Kirk Hughes said.

The highway was reduced to a single lane as the RCMP completed their investigation and the tow truck removed the vehicle.
