12-year-old airlifted to hospital, St. Paul youth charged with aggravated assault
A 14-year-old youth from St. Paul has been charged with Aggravated Assault.
According to Police, “On June 25, 2021, Saddle Lake and St. Paul RCMP were dispatched to assist Saddle Lake Cree Nation emergency medical services as a 12-year-old male youth had been injured as a result of a firearms related incident.”
The youth was transported to hospital and then flown by air ambulance to receive treatment for life threatening injuries. The youth remains in hospital in stable condition.
The RCMP investigation resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old youth from St. Paul, Alta., on June 25. The 14-yr-old youth has since been charged with Aggravated Assault and released on conditions to attend St. Paul Provincial Youth Court on July 8, 2021. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of the youth charged will not be released.
The Saddle Lake RCMP, along with the assistance of the St. Paul RCMP, RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the RCMP Police Dog Service, are conducting this investigation.
This incident is believed to be targeted.
As this matter is now before the courts, no further information can be released.
